タ・プロームは、なんといってもジャングルに侵食されたその姿が有名な遺跡だ。いたるところで竜樹が根を伸ばし、きつく組まれた石の間に食い込んでその一部と化している。そのままにしておけば木の成長とともに遺跡は崩れ、木を切ってしまえば残った根は腐ってやはり崩壊してしまう。あとはもう崩れ落ちるのを梁で支えるのがやっとだ。（それはそれで見た目が悪いわけだが。）

タ・プロームの巨人
ここまでくると、植物というより巨人の足に見える。

回廊跡
かつて回廊があった部分だが、完全に崩れ落ちてしまって、その元の姿を思わせるものは何もない。

残された建物にはまだ美しいレリーフが残されている。（ところもある）

昼食はシェムリアップ市街の「THE SAMAR」というホテルのレストランでいただく。日本のガイドブックとかには載ってないのだが、TripAdvisorあたりでは欧米人になかなかの人気だ。こちらで「ウェスタン料理」の昼食なのだが、早い話が洋食だ。
メインディッシュ
カンボジアは、歴史からいえばフランスの影響が濃いところであるはずなのだが、ホーチミンで時折感じるような「フランスっぽさ」はあまりない。こちらの料理もフランスというよりイタリアっぽい雰囲気であった。

このあとは一旦ホテルに戻ってしばし休憩。炎天下ではないものの、熱帯を歩き回っているのだから少々疲れるのである。
